Meta Data and Document Management

Copying BI Content to the Active Version  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

BI Content is shipped in the delivery version (D version). Before you can work with BI Content objects, you have to copy them from the delivery version (D version) to the active version (A version). This means that you must activate the BI Content.
You can collect the delivered BI Content in the function area BI Content of the Data Warehousing Workbench and copy it to the active version. This ensures that all additional required objects are automatically included, as is the sequence of activation. You can choose whether you want to copy, match, or not install the BI Content objects.
Caution
If you do not compare the versions, the delivery version is used and the active customer version is overwritten when you activate the BI Content.
We recommend that you install BI Content objects in the following cases:
After a BI Content release upgrade
An upgrade to a new BI Content release usually contains a large number of new and modified BI Content objects. If you want to use the new and modified BI Content, you have to reinstall the BI Content objects. Refer to the comments in the Release Notes for BI Content documentation for the particular release. They are available on help.sap.com  ® SAP NetWeaver  ® BI Content. In some cases, we recommend explicitly that you install the A versions of certain objects.
After installing a BI Content support package
Refer to the SAP Notes that are delivered with each Content support package. These SAP Notes contain information on why certain BI Content objects are being redelivered. An overview of the SAP Notes can be found at service.sap.com/bi ® Product Information SAP NetWeaver 7.0 BI ® Support Packages ® BI Business Content.

Prerequisites

Make sure that the metadata was already replicated for the SAP source systems for which BI Content should be activated. The delivery versions for objects that are not source system-dependent are only available for activation of the BI Content after replication.
More information: Replication of DataSources

Procedure

...
       1.      In the main menu of BI Modeling choose Data Warehousing Workbench: BI Content (Transaction RSOR). If you are already in the Data Warehousing Workbench, select the BI Content functional area by clicking on the corresponding pushbutton in the left-hand navigation window, or by choosing Goto ® Install BI Content.
Note
You can display or hide the left navigation window of the Data Warehousing Workbench with This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Navigation Window On/ Off.
       2.      Collect the objects you want to activate and check your settings for activating BI Content with respect to Install, Match or Copy and Active Version Available.
More information: Collecting Objects
       3.      WithThis graphic is explained in the accompanying text Install, define how you want to install the BI Content:
Installation Type
Information
Simulate Installation
The system runs a test to see whether any errors are likely to occur during the installation. However, not all errors that may occur can be identified during simulation: Some error messages can only be generated when a real A version (not just a simulation) is available in the system. You should, therefore, only use the simulation function as a rough guide to help you identify and remove basic errors.
Install
The selected objects are installed immediately.
Install in Background
The selected objects are installed in the background.
Install and Transport
The selected objects are installed immediately and then written to a transport request.
Recommendation
If you have a large number of objects, SAP recommends you use the Install in Background option because installing a large number of objects can take a long time. Modifying objects that are already active can take an especially long time to complete.

Creating Documents  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Prerequisites

You are in the maintenance screens for documents:
·         In the Documents functional area of the Data Warehousing Workbench
·         On the Documents screen of a BI object

Procedure

...
       1.      Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Create. The Create New Document dialog box is displayed.
       2.      Enter the required data on the tab pages.
Tab Page
What You Need to Know
General
The document class (doc.-class) is pre-set.
Example
BW: Physical class metadata
BW: Physical class master data
BW: Physical class for InfoProvider data
Name: Specify a technical name.
Caution
The name must be unique for each document in a document class.
Description
Note
This description appears as a link text in Web applications.
MIME Type: Simple Text is the default.
You can display all of the MIME types that can be selected in the system by choosing the pushbutton (...) next to the entry field (see Valid File Types).
In the MIME Type column, the MIME content types are listed; under Text, a description of the application is listed.
Note
In BI metadata search / BI document administration, you determine the permitted file types. For more information, see Editing Valid File Types.
Select the MIME type that you want to use and choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Transfer.
Log.Doc.Property
Whether/the number of fields that are filled with default values is determined by the specific BI object that you have chosen, or the extent to which you have restricted the number of BI objects in the selection in the Documents functional area of the Data Warehousing Workbench. Input help is available for some of these input fields.
The individual document classes have the following logical document properties:
Metadata:
·        Object Name
·        Object Type
·        Online documentation: You determine the status of the documents by choosing yes or no from the dropdown menu. You can choose Yes for one document only.
·        Hide Name: If you set this property, the technical name of the object is not shown in reporting; only the document description is displayed.
This is especially useful for documents that were created from reporting in BW Release 3.0, because the system suggested a GUID as the technical name of the document for documents of this type. If you set the
Hide Name property afterwards, this GUID will no longer be displayed for the reporting user.
Master data:
·        Characteristic
·        Characteristic Value
·        Document type (user-defined)
·        Hide Name (see above)
InfoProvider data:
·        InfoProvider
·        Query
·        Key Figure
·        All characteristics for which the Characteristic is Document Property indicator is set
·        Hide Name (see above)
Technical Information
Document Class
Logical Document Class
You are not required to make any entries.
Note
For more information about document classes and properties, see Document Classes.
       3.      Choose the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Start Editor function to begin editing the document. The application opens according to the MIME type that you have selected.
       4.      Save the document in the application.
       5.      Close the application.

The new document is created on the server.

  2. Hi, probably our entry may be off topic but anyways, I have been surfing around your blog and it looks very professional. It’s obvious you know your topic and you appear fervent about it. I’m developing a fresh blog plus I’m struggling to make it look good, as well as offer the best quality content. I have learned much at your web site and also I anticipate alot more articles and will be coming back soon. Thanks you.
